DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS AND STATISTICS

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Statistics works closely with all NARDI departments to validate the economic viability of conceived projects and to provide market intelligence that informs choice of projects to invest Research and Development resources in.  Thus, the department identifies areas where competitiveness, efficiency and maximum returns in the agricultural sector can be achieved.   Therefore, the department conducts independent social and economic applied research, using unique data and knowledge models to provide insights and integral advice for policy and decision-making.  The department provides NARDI with global market forecasts for agricultural commodities and estimations of production, consumption and prices of agricultural commodities.  Such information assists NARDI to guide the nation to invest prudently in agriculture.

To commence operations, detailed analysis and elucidation of investment opportunities in selected value chains that have been prioritized by Government will be conducted by the Department over the NARDI Strategic Plan 2022-2026 period.
